Eric Carle is Awesome!

Art, Information, Interest November 17th, 2009

The Wockets are in the middle of making Eric Carle Art.  Today we started making our coloured papers, I think our room will be very messy for a few days.  For those of you who don’t know who Eric Carle is here is a little video with Eric Carle talking about how he made his very famous book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”.  If you watch carefully you can see the technique he uses to create his wonderful art!

Did You Know …

Information, Interest, Learning, Topic, Writing, eLearning, inquiry, literacy, reading November 5th, 2009

The Wockets have been doing lots and lots of research!  We are learning to be Researchers with Integrity!  When we research with integrity we must do three things.

  1. First we must check that our information is true by checking in three different places.

  2. We must write our information in our own words.

  3. We must record where we found our information, which is kind of like saying thank you to the author.

Here are a few Did You Know Facts that we have picked up during our research …

Totally Tessellated!

Art, Interest, Learning, Maths November 4th, 2009

The Wockets are playing with Tessellations for Art.

Here are two cool sites that you may like to check out.

The Escher Site is fantastic, he truly was the master of tessellation.  Make sure you check out the symmetry page in the Gallery, its fantastic!

The Totally Tessellated Site has lots of tessellation templates that you can print out and colour.

Let me know how you went in the comment boxes below!

wocketmammalwordle

This is a Wordle.net Word Cloud of all of the Mammals The Wockets could name.

Wockets, for writing today I would like you to tell me what mammal you would choose to be if you could be one.  Describe that mammal to me in a JUICY way.  Explain why it would be good to be that mammal and then tell me the disadvantages that you would face as that mammal.

After that I would like you to list and explain which Thinking Hats you used to think about this piece of JUICY writing.
